Positano & Amalfi — Sunset by Boat
Positano & Amalfi Coast Sunset Cruise with Prosecco
Positano climbs a cliff, so the one view of it that works is from the sea, and the last hour of light is when it glows. Here is which boat to book, what it costs, when the sun really sets, and which way your boat will go.
Which sunset cruise to book
For most couples and small groups: the prosecco sail from Amalfi or Positano. It runs past Conca dei Marini and the Furore fjord, stops for a swim off Praiano, then reaches Positano in the late light, on a 10–12 metre gozzo with a skipper, a hostess, prosecco and limoncello on board. It has 568 reviews averaging 4.8 and cost from $134 per person on 31 October 2026.
See 2027 dates for the prosecco sail →If you only want the view and a glass in your hand, the 90-minute Positano shared sunset cruise does it for $78. If it is a proposal or an anniversary, a private boat costs from about $504 for the whole boat, and it is the only way to choose your own timing.
The 2026 season has ended for most boats. On 31 October 2026 the first open dates were 14 March to 1 May 2027, depending on the boat; every tour here cancels free up to 24 hours before.

Dates for the prosecco sail from Amalfi or Positano
The calendar below is the live one for the prosecco sail, which lasts about 2 hours. Pick Amalfi or Positano as your departure when you book. A similar sunset cruise with prosecco from Amalfi or Positano runs 2½ hours and brings you back to the port you left from.
Which way does the boat go?
Positano sunset boats go one of two ways, and the tour page usually says which.
- East, toward Praiano and the Furore fjord. The most common route. You pass Praiano’s coves and stop off the fjord, a narrow gorge under the coast road that you only really see from the water, then turn back toward Positano as it lights up. The prosecco sail runs this coast the other way, from Amalfi past Conca dei Marini.
- West, to the Li Galli islets. Three small islands off Positano, Gallo Lungo, La Rotonda and Castelluccio, known since antiquity as the home of the Sirens (their old name is Le Sirenuse). The dancer Léonide Massine bought Gallo Lungo in the 1920s and Rudolf Nureyev bought the islands in 1988. They are still private: boats can circle them and you can swim in the water around them, but nobody lands. The private sunset boat from Positano lets you choose either route; the Positano sunset boat with prosecco heads for Li Galli and hidden coves.
When the sun actually sets in Positano
This is the detail most tour pages skip. A cruise that leaves at a fixed 18:00 and lasts 90 minutes is back at 19:30. In late June the sun sets around 20:35, so you get golden light but not the sunset itself. In May and September the same departure lands much closer to it.
| Date | Sunset in Positano (local time) |
|---|---|
| 15 April | 19:40 |
| 15 May | 20:11 |
| 15 June | 20:34 |

| 15 August | 20:02 |
| 15 September | 19:13 |
| 15 October | 18:23 |
Calculated for Positano’s position, Italian summer time (to 25 October in 2026).
Departure times differ by boat: one shared Positano boat leaves between 17:30 and 18:00 in summer; one private boat meets on the main beach at 18:00; the Sorrento dinner boat sets its time by the sunset and confirms it the day before; and in low season departures shift with the shorter days. If the sunset itself matters to you, choose a boat whose time moves with the sun, or ask the operator for the exact time on your date after booking.

Prosecco, limoncello and what to bring
The prosecco is from the north. Prosecco DOC comes from nine provinces of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, far from Campania. The local drink on these boats is limoncello, made from the coast’s own lemons; the prosecco sail, the Amalfi sunset boat with fruit and drinks and the Positano shared sunset boat on a classic gozzo all list limoncello alongside the prosecco.
Where you meet. In Positano the shared boats gather near the Cala Marinai brasserie on Via Regina Giovanna, by the pier, or at the boat desks on the main beach, Spiaggia Grande. In Amalfi the small-group sunset gozzo leaves from the Darsena pier by Piazza Flavio Gioia, not the ferry pier. Your confirmation names the exact spot; most crews ask you to arrive 10 to 20 minutes early.
What to bring. A light layer, because it cools quickly on the water after sunset; swimwear and a towel only if your boat has a swim stop (the prosecco sail and the private snorkel cruise do; the Positano shared cruise lists none). If you get seasick, note that the Positano shared cruise and one of the private boats are not recommended for people prone to it; the evening sea is often calm, but not always.
If the sea is rough. The skipper cancels, and you are offered a new date or a full refund. Separately, every tour on this page can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before.
Check the prosecco sail for your 2027 dates →Positano sunset cruises, answered
Yes, if you pick the right one. Positano is built up a cliff, so the best view of it is from the sea, and the last hour of light is when the town looks its best. A shared 90-minute cruise cost from $77 per person in October 2026. Check the departure time against the sunset for your date: in June and July some boats are back an hour before the sun goes down.
Most shared and private sunset cruises from Positano last about 90 minutes. The prosecco sail from Amalfi or Positano with a swim stop off Praiano runs about 2 hours, and a similar sunset cruise with prosecco from Amalfi or Positano runs 2½ hours. The caves and prosecco boat runs about 4 hours.
It depends on the boat and the month. Some boats keep a fixed time (one private boat meets at 18:00 on Positano’s main beach; one shared boat leaves between 17:30 and 18:00 in summer), others move the departure with the sunset and confirm the time the day before. In Positano the sun sets around 20:35 in late June and around 18:20 in mid-October.
On some boats. The prosecco sail includes a swim stop off Praiano with snorkeling gear, and the Amalfi small-group sunset gozzo stops at beaches reachable only by sea. Some shared Positano cruises are a sail with drinks only, and one small-group Positano boat does not allow swimming; the 90-minute Positano sunset boat with prosecco carries snorkel masks. Bring a swimsuit and towel only if your boat has a swim stop.
Yes, but most leave from Sorrento’s own harbour and stay on the Sorrento coast, because Positano is a long way round the peninsula by boat. There is a small-group Sorrento sunset boat with dinner on board and a private sunset boat with prosecco from Marina Piccola. For a Positano sunset seen from the water, start in Positano.
The skipper cancels when the sea is too rough, and you are offered a new date or a full refund. All the tours on this page also have free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure, so you can book ahead and still change your mind.
Most shared sunset boats stop at the end of October. On 31 October 2026 the earliest open dates were 14 March 2027 for the Positano shared sunset gozzo, 1 April 2027 for the Positano shared and private cruises, and 1 May 2027 for the prosecco sail. Booking the 2027 dates now costs nothing extra and can be cancelled free up to 24 hours before.
